Aly Nazerali is an international businessman and philanthropist based in Vancouver, Canada. Over the past four decades Aly ‘Altaf’ Nazerali has established, funded, and managed multinational companies on four continents.
In Africa and the Middle East, Nazerali managed large-scale communication and engineering infrastructure projects. In Europe, he specialized in commodity-based financing projects. In South America, Nazerali founded Brazilian subscription television company Canbras Communications Corporation, in which Bell Canada International acquired a controlling interest in 1998.
For the past 25 years, he has served as a principal of Valor Invest Ltd., a merchant banking firm that has financed numerous companies focused on natural resources, software, telecommunications, and emerging technologies throughout Japan, North America, and Europe.
An active member of the Ismaili Muslim community, Nazerali donates his time and resources to efforts to help the less fortunate access education and health services.
In addition to his ongoing support of the Aga Khan Foundation and Rotary International, in the 1980s Nazerali’s family was a significant benefactor of a vocational boarding school for primary- and secondary-aged girls in Bhuj, India. This is the village that Nazerali’s family originated from before migrating to Africa in the early 20th century.
In 2002 he and his family made a multi-million-dollar donation for a medical facility attached to the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. The Nazerali-Walji Building provides high-quality, affordable outpatient services to a broad section of the local population.
Aly Nazerali was born in Kenya and raised in the Congo. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Islamic Civilizations and an MBA in Finance and International Business from Columbia University in New York.
Nazerali lives in Vancouver, Canada with his family.
